Mike Brissette
M.Eng (Survey Engineering) · Organizational mentor · Senior hydrographic survey professional
MosaicHydro is Mike Brissette. Thirty years spanning submarines, survey vessels, equipment sales, and consulting — with a consistent focus on one thing: helping survey organizations perform at a higher level.
He has worked at every level of a survey operation — as the junior officer learning the equipment, the hydrographer-in-charge accountable for the data, the technical expert advising on procurement, and the organizational mentor working with leadership to improve how the whole thing runs. That breadth is what makes the mentorship effective.
Background
Trusted advisor and organizational mentor to hydrographic survey companies. Helps leadership improve operational performance, build technical capability, and get more from their people and equipment. Work spans the full range of survey operations — from needs assessment and equipment procurement through to operator training, system mobilization, and field support.
Since 2004: delivered over 75 multibeam sonar, sidescan sonar, and software training courses to government hydrographic offices, naval organizations, academic institutions, and commercial operators across North America, South America, Asia, Europe, and Australia. Provided international on-site mentorship to survey teams covering integrated multibeam, sidescan, and positioning system workflows. Led offshore and coastal survey campaigns as Hydrographer-in-Charge across multiple jurisdictions.
Helped survey organizations across North and South America adopt and maximize R2Sonic multibeam sonar systems. Worked with clients at every stage — from initial needs assessment through system integration, operator training, and ongoing support. Designed and delivered training programs tailored to operators at all experience levels. Developed long-term relationships with value-added resellers and expanded R2Sonic’s international distribution network.
Twenty years of naval service spanning submarine operations, destroyer navigation, and hydrographic survey. Final role: Executive Officer of the Acoustic Data Analysis Centre Pacific — responsible for a 25-person office, a $1.8M annual business plan, and the performance of the centre’s technical staff.
As the Navy’s West Coast Hydrographer, designed and led the Pacific Ocean Mapping Initiative — collecting thousands of square kilometres of multibeam data over five years. Represented Canadian Navy hydrographic interests in NATO working groups and multinational exercises. Since 1998, trained all Canadian Navy Fleet Navigators in hydrographic survey fundamentals.
